4 Ways To Get The Most Out Of Your Instagram & Facebook Stories

You can’t believe everything you read on the internet…right?! Lately we’ve seen a lot of influencers giving marketing advice. Good thing Serene Mktg is here to set the record straight! Just because someone has an aesthetically pleasing grid or a lot of followers does not make them qualified to tell you how to grow your business. What worked for them, might not work for you. Every business is unique and deserves an individualized strategy. We want to dismiss myths surrounding Instagram/Facebook stories. Contrary to popular belief these DO NOT house the content that did not meet the criteria to make it to your grid. This is not where you stash your “subpar” content. Remember: stories appear at the top of everyone’s feed — this will most likely be the first thing they see from you when they open their app. Dedicate time to create meaningful and intentional stories. This can be a great way to engage your followers. Stories are where you turn followers into buyers. Here’s how:

Use All the Tools at Your Disposal

One of the simplest ways to up your social media game is to use all the tools and features available to you. If your account has over 10k followers then you can utilize the “swipe-up” feature in your Instagram stories. This allows people viewing your stories to “swipe-up” and they will be redirected to your website or a specific link you want to expose them to. If you don’t have an account that large then don’t sweat it! Use the link in your bio and encourage people to visit it through compelling and engaging stories. Shoppable stickers are another way to convert your followers into buyers. Through your stories you can craft a narrative about a specific product. You’ll do this over the course of a few slides and add stickers so followers can see exactly how much your product costs, what it is called, and how they can get their hands on it!

Consider Running a Takeover

Story takeovers are a great way to reach a new audience when your reach has seemed to plateau. Takeovers are great for a few reasons: one is that if you choose to let a brand ambassador take over your account for the day then you immediately reach an entirely new audience. By posting on your page rather than theirs, the ambassador draws their followers to your page. Also, due to social networking algorithms, as the person posts throughout the day they will keep your account at the top of the feed. Finally, it humanizes your brand. Putting a face behind a company is always helpful.

Use the Highlights Feature

Perhaps the coolest feature that Instagram has implemented is story highlights. Highlights save your stories on your main page in various categories (that you designate), so that followers can always stay educated on the products or services that you offer (even after the story “disappears”). It is helpful to create categories dedicated to different values of your company…this could be education, inspiration, services offered, etc.

Create Excitement Through Teasers

Stories are meant to be clicked through. They are a flash of what your account grid will show in more depth. They should instill excitement and suspense in your followers. Tease your followers. Give a glimpse of what they can expect in the near future. Stories are a great place to flaunt a new product, service, or campaign.

Stories are a great way to boost engagement and turn your followers into your clients. Don’t miss out on potential customers because you aren’t giving stories enough credit. And remember: don’t believe everything you read on the internet…(unless it’s from us) 😉
