Remove All Barriers to Entry
It is important that you remove all barriers to entry and make it as easy as possible for people to subscribe to your email list. A pop up is great when someone first gets to your website, but you should give them other options too! Put a link to sign up on the most visited pages of your website or even on every page if you feel so inclined.
Utilize Different Forms of Communication
There is nothing wrong with plugging your newsletter each time you communicate with a client. Remind your customers that your email subscription exists …how can they sign-up if they don’t know how? Basically, educate them! If you are sending out a text blast or meeting people in person don’t forget to share about your newsletter.
Create a sense of FOMO! Make your clients jealous and worried that they might miss out if they don’t subscribe to your emails. One way to do this is to tell subscribers exclusive details before they get released to the public. Another is to do giveaways or enter subscribers into raffles for coveted prizes. Your email newsletter should be a club that everyone (and we mean everyone) wants to be a part of.
Let Clients Know the Frequency of Your Emails
Honesty is NEVER a bad thing. To prevent mass unsubscription movements, let your subscribers know exactly how often you will be emailing them. Is it once a week? Bi-weekly? Once a quarter? Some companies have even found success by letting customers dictate exactly how often they will be emailed.
Take Advantage of Dead Zones
Ah…you gotta love a good ole’ dead zone. Have you ever been waiting in line at a restaurant or using a public bathroom and right in front of your face is an ad frenzy? That, my friend, is what we call a dead zone. A dead zone is any place that you have a captive audience. They are a great place to advertise because people have literally no choice but to pay attention to you. If you don’t have any dead zones of your own, this is a great way to partner with local businesses and spark collaborations!
Growing your email list takes time, so be patient! Over time, your list will build and become a great asset for you and your business. Emails are a great way to streamline communication to a large group of people. Don’t forget to have fun creating your newsletter. Be genuine to your brand and don’t be afraid to throw in some tips, tricks, or ideas totally unrelated to your business. Not everything has to be all work and no play!
