How To Give Your Content More Personality

Content creation can be tough — especially when a demanding schedule drains your creativity gas tank. We’ve been there, furiously clicking the pen and staring at a blank screen. Sounds all too familiar, right?! Don’t worry, we get it. While keeping yourself inspired will help with content creation, sometimes it is just not enough. If you are looking to spice up your content and add some flair, you’ve come to the right place. Here is how we have helped our clients add more personality to their feeds through fresh content creation.

Tell a Good Story

There’s a reason that the human race has been telling stories for–well–ever. People love them. You don’t have to overdo it by any means, but using an anecdote as an intro to a blog post or a newsletter can act as a hook to your reader. If you are able to build a bond or an emotional connection with the person on the other side of the screen they are probably going to stick around a bit longer. And when selling a product or service, those extra few seconds mean everything.

Think Hard About Your Formatting

In marketing, nothing and we mean NOTHING is left to chance. Every image, word, and text color has a purpose. As marketers, we want to appeal to our clients and make sure that we are making the experience as positive as possible for them. That means that we predict how they are going to react to each and every piece of content that we put out. With that being said, it is important that you focus on the format of your blogs, newsletters, and social media posts. For example, break text blocks up so that your content is more visually appealing to customers. Ditch the highlighter yellow font color for something a bit more neutral and easier to read from a device.

*Pro-tip: preview your content from a range of devices before you send it out!*

Let Your Passion Shine Through

Passion is infectious. How can you expect your audience to be excited about your content if you, the creator, aren’t excited about it? Be your own biggest fan. If you’re writing, write the way that you would speak. Type a blog with the same enthusiasm that you’d use if you were pitching your service or product to a consumer face to face. If you teach people to be excited about your content, they most likely will.

Try Something New

There’s no rule that says you can’t try out new voices or alter-egos. Add life to your content by trying different styles, voices, or personas. By doing so, you might even create something that appeals to a segment of the market that you didn’t even know you could capture.

Make It Interesting

When attempting to add more personality to your content it is important that you are unpredictable. When you feel yourself (or your content) falling into a routine, change it up! Try a new format, a new style, whatever you do make sure it is something different. You can try building suspense, throw in a fun fact, or do you have something random to say? Say it! Keep your audience on their toes. If they always know what to expect from you, why should they stick around?

Look at Your Content the Way That Your Audience Will

THIS is a big one. When reviewing content for release it is important that you look at it from the point of view of the consumer. Don’t read your Tweet how you would read it, but rather how the audience will read it. Make sure that your content reflects the message as well as the tone that you intended. Many companies have learned this lesson the hard way by releasing tone-deaf and insensitive content. Pure intentions mean nothing when your brand is on the verge of being “cancelled.”

Content creation can be draining, but it is important that you create a healthy relationship with your content in order to curate charismatic and playful media. At Serene Mktg, we are here to help! Subscribe to our newsletter or DM us to find out how we can help your business.
