Social Media Tips Everyone Should Know

Ah, the ever-changing world of social media. One of the biggest mistakes that we see clients make is avoiding social media because they don’t understand it or because they don’t think their ideal client base resides online. We get it, learning to navigate social media can be confusing and time-consuming. But while there is no need to be a pro, there are some basics that everybody should know. 

Quality over quantity

All too often we see clients suddenly panic at their lack of social media presence and try to move onto too many platforms all at once. When you are just starting to experiment with social media, pick one or two platforms that you would like to prioritize. This allows you to create high quality content and post consistently rather than posting mediocre content every once in a while. This leads into my next point…

Be consistent


Consistency is key when it comes to building a social media presence. It is a BIG deal to gain a follower. When someone follows you it means that they want to see your content in their feed. They followed you for a reason, so give them what they want. High quality, consistent, and on target posts will attract your target audience faster than you think. 

Be wary of jumping on each trend you see


While you want to keep an eye on what is trending, you only want to hop on a trend if it aligns with what your audience wants to see. If it doesn’t, then you are simply alienating the crowd that you worked so hard to gather. Think hard about the pillars of your brand before you start creating content. 

Join communities 


There are billions of people on social media. Billions. Contrary to what you may think though, it is fairly easy to narrow down your audience thanks to tight-knit communities. Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and many more platforms allow you to join groups or find like-minded people through hashtags. This is such an important tool to use. As you hone in on the best communities for your brand, your target audience will fall into your lap!

Interact with your audience


The beauty of social media is that you have the unique opportunity to directly communicate with your followers. Respond to their questions, comments, and complaints. This illustrates to people visiting your page that you are not just an untouchable mega corporation–you are a brand crafted by humans! Humanizing your brand allows for more authentic connections with your followers, turning them into fans (and paying customers) for life. 


The cool thing about social media marketing is that you don’t have to be a pro to make an impact. The key to success is staying in tune to what your audience wants to see and providing them with that kind of content.
